The 'Not-so-easy' Birthday Gift

And as she walked down the stairs she felt a bit uneasy..but then she was a storm in herself. She walked confidently. Taking steady steps in her stilettos. Looking towards the garden she saw Dadaji coming back home. She touched his feet as he blessed her and wished her a great day at college.Plugging in her earphones as she sat at the window seat in the bus. Ed sheeran consoling her throughout her journey. Getting down at a stop, she walked down the stretch of 10 minutes talking on call with her childhood friend who wished her. She was giggling, pretending happiness. Reaching her class she was welcomed by a big "HAPPY BIRTHDAY" graffiti on the whiteboard. Her girlfriends hugged her. Tears rolled down from her cheeks which she wiped by a tip of her dupatta of her birthday punjabi suit. And then he came...her best friend from like eternities....she ran and hugged him tighter than ever before. He wondered what's wrong. Girls that hated her were shocked to see her coming in a punjabi suit that too on her birthday.

She found solace in his arms. She cried oceans of tears and stammered what all happened with her. That pervert was near the garden and she had noticed him staring at her constantly some days back. It was his everyday routine. She thought it to be due to the way she dressed. Croptops and shorts always brought unwanted attention to her fair skin.Today she wore a proper punjabi suit. He looked at her as usual. She ignored. But today, He followed her. To the bus stop. Sat next to her in the bus. She was terrified. She ignored. He tried to touch her, to grope her. She got down at the immediate next stop. The conductor who was regular to see her getting down to the stop in front of his college got confused but didn't ask her anything. He got down too. Followed her all the way to the college. She was dumbstruck. She couldn't feel a thing. it was when her people hugged her....she broke down!

It wasn't easy. Its not easy to try to get out of your normal self into something you are not comfortable with. Its not easy to hold back your tears, hold back your agony, hold back your rage. Its not easy to walk (run) a long stretch wearing stilettos. Its not easy to bear this alone. Whats really sad is nobody seems to see it....and if some do...they simply ignore and move on. It was sad that her father figures couldn't notice the fear in her eyes. But its not totally their fault as they thought her to be anxious for the day.

What's really sad is that she lives in such a world where she had to be silent!
